About:
This is the official homepage of
picy gallery, another php gallery among many others. Why bother with
one additional PHP gallery, you ask? I started to develop picy out of fun and because I needed a suitable
PHP gallery at that time and didn't want to bother searching one that fit my needs. So I decided to hack
together my own that would behave as I want.
News:
- 3rd December 2004
I finished the next release. I advise everyone to update to the new version!
Changes from 0.6 to 0.7:
- Fixed a bug in picy that would pass the offset variable to pages it shouldn't have to (thanks to Mark).
- The IE warning is gone. I didn't think it was appropriate now picy is distributed. I exchanged it with an
option to override the default theme for IE users.
- The 'show_folders' option is gone. Folders with an extension will always be shown. It's now also possible
to inlude all folders using the 'all_folders' option.
- The picy configurator now doesn't need to be manually set-up. The first time it's run it will install ifself
and store settings in an external settings file.
- The picy configurator now features a revised setting page. It greatly facilitates understanding and changing
the basic settings.
- The picy configurator now has a dedicated page to setup themes and adding them to the theme array.
- picy now comes with a first version of the manual that helps setting it up.
- Themes now can be exported to make editing them easier.
- 25th November 2004
Almost 300 downloads. Wow, I really didn't expect that much. Right now I feel especially awkward about the
unpolished parts of picy. On the to-do list are a documentation and a HTML 4.0 theme for IE. In the meantime,
feel free to send me any question or feature request you might have!
- 20th November 2004
First public release of picy with version 0.6! Note that the script has not yet been tested very throughfully and especially
the configurator is still quite experimental. Please report any bug you might find.
Key Features:
- One-step install
Basically, picy runs out of the box. You simply upload the single PHP file that contains all needed pictures and themes
to the folder you want to create your gallery. Picy will use ImageMagick (if installed gobally) or GD and create all
thumbnails when they are first needed.
- Multi theme support
Picy has the standard theme built-in and can hold as much themes as you like. Picy can also load external Themes. Themes are easy to create
and to modify with some knowledge of HTML. Some ability to read PHP code might be useful as well. It's possible to assign different
themes to different subgalleries to give them an unique look. But the built-in theme already looks so tasty that you'll never
want another ^_^'.
- Configuration Script
Picy comes with a handy configuration script. You can use it to tune the settings, edit and install themes and integrate
additional pictures into the picy script file. With this, you don't have to use a text-editor to find and change picy's
settings inside the PHP code and you can do it from anywhere with a simple webbrowser.
- Image tunneling and hotlink protection
Picy can thunnel images through the php script. This way you can lock images from being directly accessed (by using htaccess files -
an example is included in picy) and with this additional control, picy can put an effective hotlink protection on those pictures
using either sessions, mysql or the filesystem.
- General appeal
Picy just makes a good overall impression. It's simple to setup and needs only PHP to run. But still picy has many optional
features that make picy the ideal choice for various uses. Of course, I'm bloating here but isn't picy just cute? ^_^
